strozzi palAce hotel’s HISTORY
Stepping into Strozzi Palace Hotel means immersing yourself in the history of this elegant building, a welcoming retreat for generations of refined travelers during their stays in Florence.

Strozzi Palace Hotel stands on a site rich in history. Over the centuries, it has hosted significant structures, including a Roman temple dedicated to Jupiter and, later, a Guelf tower, which was eventually demolished during the conflicts between the Guelfs and Ghibellines.

Three buildings were later constructed here and eventually merged into a single palace, known as Palazzo Vecchietti, of which Strozzi Palace was once a part. However, when architect Giuseppe Poggi redesigned Florence’s historic center in the second half of the 19th century, adapting it to its new role as Italy’s capital, the city’s layout was drastically altered and modernized.

Following this urban transformation, by 1880, Strozzi Palace Hotel already had its own independent façade, marking its separation from Palazzo Vecchietti. The historic building retained its original appearance and structure until 1980, when it was purchased by its current owner. It was later converted into a hotel in 2001, with careful renovations preserving the original décor and staircases, ensuring that the building’s historical identity remained intact.
The very essence of Florence and its Renaissance style resonates in every room and space of the hotel—seen in its antique furnishings, elegant cherrywood furniture, stuccoed ceilings, chandeliers, and original paintings that adorn its walls.
